Dear Neighbor,

Big decisions lie ahead, putting Bothell's unique character and qualities at risk.  As we prepare for a very expensive overhaul of our downtown area, we must be careful not to destroy the charm and small/town feel that so many of us treasure.

The current Council majority has gone astray, disrespecting the public, spinning issues rather than just telling it like it is, and putting self and special interests before the public interest.

The Council majority closed the hearing on the downtown plan, and then went on to make major changes without allowing further opportunity for public comment.  That's outrageous.  It is a violation of public trust.

I voted NO when the Council majority granted themselves and their families premium health care benefits, at taxpayer expense.  That amounts to a compensation increase of more then 250%,

Without reviewing or even seeing the document, the Council majority rubber/stamped a $6.5 million dollar contract for the Public Works facility.  That was a complete breach of their fiduciary responsibility.

The Council majority claim they haven't raised taxes.  This boast is very mis-leading and self-serving.  Although the smallest utility tax (on stormwater) was eliminated 3 years ago, the total amount we pay for all our utility taxes has skyrocketed, becoming our largest City tax burden, surpassing property taxes paid to Bothell.

I made a motion that would have actually decreased the amount of utility tax you pay, and the Council majority voted NO.

Bothell citizens deserve new leadership.  The current culture on Council stifles meaningful debate using a stopwatch approach, allowing personal attacks and interrogation of speakers, fostering an environment of disrespect.  Council decisions should be based upon true public need and solid deliberation and not intimidation.

It's clear there needs to be a change on Council.  I seek your help in electing new members who will change this majority, and put your interests before self and special interests.

Sincerely,

Patrick Ewing
